The short answer: art above a couch looks right when it spans about two-thirds of the sofa's width — anywhere from half to four-fifths works — with the bottom of the frame 6–10 inches above the sofa back. That is the convention most designers and art retailers publish, and it is what the planner below uses — then it does the part the charts skip: it tells you which sizes available in this catalog, as one print, a pair or a trio, and what each costs at Cozy Spirit Studio.
Measure the sofa from arm to arm (not the wall). Every design in this catalog comes in the same ten portrait sizes, from 5 × 7 to 28 × 40 inches, so the planner works for any print you choose.
Sizes and prices come from the merchant's feed (spot-checked 15 October 2026); framed prices use the black frame, which costs the same as white, wood and dark wood. Spans are print widths plus 3-inch gaps — a frame's moulding adds a little, and its exact width isn't in the feed. Shipping and tax are shown at the merchant before you pay.
The same rule applied to typical sofa widths. Share of width is the total span (prints plus 3-inch gaps) divided by the sofa's width; the target is about 67%. The table assumes a 32-inch sofa back and an 8-foot ceiling, and leaves out 5 × 7 prints, which read as shelf-sized over a sofa.

Over furniture, the gap to the furniture matters more than the familiar 57–60-inch eye-level rule: leave 6–10 inches between the sofa back and the bottom of the frame so the art and sofa read as one composition. Closer than 6 inches and the frame crowds the cushions visually; much higher than 10 and the art floats away from the furniture it is meant to anchor.
Every print here is a portrait (taller than wide), so one print rarely spans a long sofa on its own — even the largest, 28 × 40, is 28 inches wide. That is why the planner often recommends a pair or trio: two 20 × 28 prints with a 3-inch gap span 43 inches; three 18 × 24s span 60. A single print only reaches half the width of furniture up to about 56 inches, so it is the right answer for consoles, dressers and benches rather than sofas. For ready-composed trios with matching palettes, see Poster Sets; for spacing a larger arrangement, the gallery-wall guide.
A spread of curator-noted prints across subjects, one per design family; every one comes in all ten sizes.
